Plain answers about how the Business Model Canvas handles your data: what stays in your browser, what the optional AI assist sends, and what we keep.

What stays in your browser

Your canvas — the project name, the short description and every sticky note — is saved in this browser’s local storage. It is not sent to us as you write, edit, move or delete notes. Clearing your browsing data, using a private window or switching device removes it, so export a JSON backup when a board matters.

What the AI assist sends

AI assist is opt-in and runs only when you click the AI button in a block. That request contains the block you clicked, the project name (up to 80 characters), the short description (up to 240 characters), the two-sided setting, your side names (up to 24 characters each) and up to 60 canvas notes, each already capped at 140 characters. No account details, files or browsing history are sent. The reply is a few draft notes shown on the board, and nothing is written until you accept one.

Who processes it

Our serverless endpoint forwards the request to OpenRouter, which passes it to a language model and returns the drafts. OpenRouter processes the text to produce that response. We do not store your canvas content or the prompt on our servers, and we do not log prompts.

What we do not do

No accounts. No server-side storage of canvas content. No prompt logging. No advertising profiles. The site uses Vercel Analytics for aggregate page views, and Google Analytics 4 only when it is configured.

Rate-limit data

To keep AI assist available and discourage abuse, the endpoint stores a short-lived request marker and two counters in Upstash Redis: a daily usage counter keyed by a hash of your IP address, and a monthly spend counter. Your raw IP address is not stored. These records contain no canvas text.

Exports

Export JSON and Export PNG run in your browser, only when you click them. The JSON contains the board, project name and description; the PNG is an image drawn from the board. The downloaded file is yours to keep or share, and once you share it the copy is outside our control.

Your choices

Use the canvas without AI assist and nothing you write leaves the browser. With AI assist, you decide when and which board to send by clicking a block’s AI button. Start over clears the board, and clearing this site’s storage in your browser removes everything saved locally. Dismissing a draft leaves the board unchanged.
